In this article we will discuss the meaning of the 5 of Pentacles (or 5 of Disks) Tarot Card which belongs to the Minor Arcana subset. The Minor Arcana consists of 56 cards. There are 16 tarot cards in each of the FOUR main suits Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles, corresponding to the FOUR elements.

Obviously, “Five of Pentacles” belongs to the Disks suit, …. and this fact tells us that this card is related to the Earth element.  What does the earth element mean?

The earth element means above all stability, common sense, practical application, great material achievements and diligent work.  In this particular case, however, we have one not so-nice-side of the earth qualities. Just look at this card, you could not have positive connotations, could you?

The card depicts a winter landscape on a cold, dark night. There is a large colorful window with 5 yellow stars in the background and two poor people walking with bare footed through the snow. One, obviously male, is using crutches, and possesses a small bell around his neck. The other, could be a female, has a cloth on her head. All in all not so cheerful scenery, and that’s why this card is usually believed to represent a bad omen.

Furthermore, when considering the general meaning of Five of Coins, the following straightforward meanings come to mind:

• material troubles

5 of Pentacle and the Horoscope

People born in the Astrological sign of Taurus, and in particular only those born from 21.04 to 30.04. have this tarot card as their most accurate description.

They are unable to observe all the suffering, pain and poverty that exist around them, and have a strong  urge to remove it.

The potential of this card is number 5. This potential brings activity and power of resistance, as well as male energy.

The frequency of this card is that of Mercury. This symbolizes sharpness, quick and cunning  thinking, but also very often shortsightedness.

People of the Five of Coins card are courageous, full of energy, diligent and strong. There is a conflict in their own being though. This conflict manifests in their desire to take actions on one side, as opposed to their caution, reason, and slyness.  Both cannot go together.

They can be very happy and prosperous if in the trade business. When a person is born in the 5 of Coins card, he or she carries great responsibility to maintain the just and well balanced course of action in one’s life.

The Tower is a card from the tarot subset of Major Arcana cards. The first look at it leaves us with fear and bewilderment. On the right, there is a lightning that strikes the very top of the tower, causing fire and casting off a crown on the left hand side. In addition, there are two figures that are being tossed out of the tower – a male and female and they are falling with their heads first.  If you are take the trouble to count the sparks you will end up with number 22, which makes you ask yourself why this number at all?

There is another important, well, sort of  question we are faced after looking at this card … – it makes us wonder who will survive, isn’t it? In your spiritual meditation on this tarot card, you can ask yourself the same question.

Meaning and Prognosis

Let us go deeper, … and explore the deeper spiritual meanings of this card.

• This card connects two of the lower Sephirot on the Tarot Cards Tree of Life , that is, Hod and Netzach.
• Here we deal with the roughest forces of fire, their most unsophisticated emanations.
• The Tower tarot card means manifestation of rough Cosmic energy.  It symbolizes an introduction into the New Age happenings.

In prognosis and readings, the Tower means fight, struggle, danger, disaster, demolition, failure of plans, or sudden death. This card wants to  show us how suppression of  feelings and emotions leads into future disaster. Note how the lightning strikes into the top of the Self, destroying the whole psychic structure.

The alchemists considered that the water element is the source of life, whereas fire is responsible for the dissolving and softening processes that free the Soul from the chains and limitations and enable it discovering its center.  When the Spirit is mature, Its principles become hardened, and step by step it becomes impossible to accept new material that would be easily embedded into the given structure.  This way, the Spirit looses its link to the dynamics of reality, It is being surrounded by the wall of dogmatic prejudices and beliefs.

This is exactly the message of the Tower Tarot Card.  If the Spirit is not flexible, it won’t be able to adjust to the ever changing circumstances of everyday life. If such Spirit is faced with danger, it can only fail to respond, leaving the problems to the Soul … to clear up the mess.

Message of the Tower Card: Every structure can be defended provided that it is flexible, elastic and capable of evolving. We are just human constructions, … we can only hope to survive if  we can adjust ourselves, since life itself is in constant flow and alternation.

The tower card in reading: Suffering is a consequence of the deeds of the  forces of destiny —- read karmic forces.  The tower card  signifies the gifts of the negative spiritual forces -  some sort of questionable enlightenment which is like a lightning -… destroying everything which is contrary to its nature.  These forces are very sensitive and they vanish when there are no more barriers of lower and higher nature – that is – when God’s light starts to shine within the human personality.
